Q. How is this workbook going to help me overcome loneliness?
A. It is going to provide you with new tools and insights in your struggle against a long-standing problem. It models the supportive and compassionate attitude that you need to develop when looking at yourself and your life honestly. Ideally, it is a new source of hope and inspiration.
Q. How is this workbook different from other things I’ve read about dealing with loneliness?
A. The workbook was written and designed on the assumption that you’ve already done some research on the subject of overcoming loneliness. While its points may not be unique, they are certainly not the formulaic material you might normally expect to find. Any one of the twelve sections may lend tremendous insight previously unknown or under appreciated.
Q. For whom is this workbook intended?
A. Adult men and women who experience a more or less persistent feeling of loneliness in their lives. Being married or in a long-term relationship does not preclude one from feeling lonely.
Q. Why describe this material as a workbook?
A. Each of the twelve sections begins with an illustrative scenario that presents a fictional representation of the point being addressed. That is followed by a detailed examination of the concept. Lastly, each section concludes with a series of probing and insightful questions that expand upon and help personalize the material.
Q. From where is the material drawn?
A. A combination of the most recent psychological research on the subject and over twenty-five years of clinical practice.
Q. What instructions are provided for getting the most out of the workbook?
A. An introductory section explains how to get the most out of the workbook. By responding to the questions that follow each of the twelve sections in a journal, all of your insights and reactions are captured in one place. This facilitates an organic expansion of the depth and breath of the material.
Q. How long does it take to complete the workbook?
A. You could do it in a few hours, were this an Olympic event. As some of the sections may strike you more deeply than others, it is difficult to answer this question with much precision. I recommend spending a few hours a week over a period of several weeks, to allow ample time for insights and connections to fully emerge.
Q. Is this considered “New Age” material?
A. Only in the sense that it acknowledges our own ability to take control of our own lives. The material is very practical and grounded. While there are some suggestions that may seem new or surprising to you, that is in the nature of my approach.
Q. Is there additional personal help available should one so desire it?
A. Yes, session time with the author beyond the one hour that comes standard with the workshop is available for an additional fee.
Q. What qualifies you to offer this material?
A. I am a licensed Mental Health Counseling in the state of New York with over thirty years of clinical experience. A fair number of my clientele is composed of men and women seeking help with loneliness issues.
